(If none of these is near you, suggest a place you know!)
On Friday, May 1, join me for the launch of my book of political poetry, Honk If You’re Awake!, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Bibliotech Books (1390 McLendon Ave. NE Atl. 30307). We’ll enjoy some simple refreshments and I’ll be happy to sign a book for you; around 8:00 I will give a short reading.
On Sunday, May 3, I’ll be performing at the Pine Lake Art Salon & Playhouse (3:00-5:00 p.m., 4641 Ridge Drive, Pine Lake GA 30072). Hosted by renowned Atlanta poet Alice Teeter and her partner Kathie deNobriga, the Salon is held quarterly in a big red barn in the artsy little community of Pine Lake, not far from Clarkston. I will be featured along with sculptor Joan Karpeles and computer artist Clayton Davis. All are welcome and there is no charge. A Zoom link will also be available; reply to this email to request it. (Event flyer below.)
On Monday, May 11, I’ll be re-visiting Chattanooga for my third featured reading at Wanderlinger Brewery (7:30 p.m., 55 Station St., Chattanooga, TN 37408), where a warm and supportive community of poets called “All Voices Heard” gathers every Monday for an open mike and an occasional featured poet. I’m looking forward to the friendly welcome I’ve received in the past. If you’re near Chattanooga, come experience the difference between an audience and a community! More info here.
And it’s already time for the Spring “Earth Poetry” workshop, this time on Saturday, May 16, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Big Trees Forest Preserve in Sandy Springs. All active or aspiring poets are invited to this informal gathering to re-connect with wild nature through the art of poetry. Click here for details.
On Wednesday, May 27, I’ll head back to Columbia, South Carolina, for another return engagement, headlining Al Black’s weekly “Mind Gravy” gathering at Cool Beans Coffeehouse (8:00 p.m., 1217 College St., Columbia SC 29201), downtown near the University of South Carolina. It will my third appearance there as well, joining another wonderful community of poets and musicians under Al’s kind and encouraging guidance. More info here.
